I am a native Texan and I consider myself a “straight shooter” which means I tell the truth and I also tell you what I really think! In my new book to be released this month entitled Body Esteem: Piece of Cake and Peace of Mind I tell it like it is when it comes to how to improve your body image based on my clinical experience and current research. As we say in Texas….no bull and all horns! Texas is one of the friendliest states in the United States and the word “Howdy” is actually used as a common greeting by true Texans and it is how we address both friends and strangers alike. It was so popular at my beloved alma mater Texas A&M University, that walking across campus everyone greeted you with the word howdy. What I love about Texans’ aside from their warm and friendly nature is that they are genuinely honest and hardworking. This makes for a pleasant and memorable experience whether you are conducting business, mingling at a rodeo or watching football! Afterall, we have four seasons in Texas: winter, spring, summer, and football! We do love our Cowboys, our Texas team!
In Texas, when you are preparing to do something, whether it be clean out your closet or ask for someone’s hand in marriage you are “fixin’ to”. Quite simply, fixing doesn’t mean repairing! Believe it or not, Texans typically do not procrastinate, but follow through on their word. Another reason I am proud to call myself a Texan. Speaking of fixins’, we often refer to our sides or toppings that we serve with our grub like barbecue, chili, and my Texas Tortilla soup as fixins’ (i.e., beans, cheddar cheese, and pickled jalapenos). Everything is bigger in Texas including the serving sizes which is why you can often split an entree at a restaurant! We are mighty proud of our Tex-Mex cuisine which is hot and spicy and many Texans consider it a food group!
Texas style expands way past championship sports teams and country and western music. Cowboy and cowgirl clothes are a great export such as cowboy boots and tall Texas hats. Even Ralph Lauren has embraced the classic Western cowboy style with fabrics rugged enough for working on a ranch, scuffed up calfskin cowboy boots, and Western style shirts. In the Lone Star state many of the cowboy boots are custom made out of exotic skin such as alligator, ostrich, or eel. My favorite cowboy boots are pink and brown and reminiscent of a black and white cow, which is called the Holstein-Friesian dairy cow which is the most popular among dairy farmers because it produces more milk than other breeds. I love to pair my boots with a pink silk blouse and a brown suede jacket and jeans. Of course you have to throw in a bandana because it is sizzling hot in Texas and you may need to wipe your brawl.
